POLL RESULTS
Even if it was more expensive, if a car powered totally by renewable energy was available now, would you want one?
Forty-seven per cent of you are all set for a car totally powered by renewable energy. Still, if you live in a city, ditching the car altogether and using public transport is probably a much cheaper option, for similar benefits. The Milky Way could be surrounded by up to 2,000 small galaxies, too faint to be seen with current technology, say astrophysicists.

Erosion of vast mountain range led to explosion of early life
Oxygen that allowed complex organisms to first flourish, hundreds of millions of years ago, came from the ‘extreme erosion’ of Earth’s largest ever mountain range, geologists have found.

IN FOCUS: The fun of watching things blow up
I’ve just managed to drag myself away from a great interactive web site to write this. I recommend you check out The Periodic Table of Videos, enthusiastically put together by chemists at the University of Nottingham, in England. It’s your standard periodic table, but with a brief YouTube video for each and every element. The guys behind this have gathered interesting factoids and filmed daredevil experiments, to walk us through the characteristics of all 118 elements from helium to ununoctium. Watch this short trailer to get a feel for what the videos are like.

See wild-haired professor Martyn Poliakoff explain why the periodic table is important, and watch the scientists having fun as they toss chunks of sodium into bowls of water. You’ll be fascinated by facts such as that an amalgam of the metals sodium and potassium is liquid at room temperature, and that if you attempt to pour it to the ground from a height, it will react with water in the air and burst into flames before it hits the floor.

The site says that its videos have already been watched 2.4 million times. I can see this being massive with schoolkids, and I applaud these guys for creating a fun and cleverly put together tool, which does a great job of communicating science. That’s aside from the fact it’s just plain fun to see things blow up!

THIS WEEK’S ONLINE FEATURE
The final frontier
In the 1960s the space race created a fascination with science and great technological advances. To find alien life we need to take back up that mantle, says astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, and send people further into space.

Friend,

John McCain is often painted as a moderate.  But do Floridians really know where he stands on the critical issues that impact women?

His record may surprise you.

Click here to see the top ten reasons why McCain is no friend of Florida women.

http://progressflorida.org/floridawomen

From equal pay to preventing teen pregnancy, from medically accurate sex education to the fundamental question of what conversations a woman may or may not have with her doctor, John McCain’s record demonstrates that he is out of touch with most Florida women.

Follow this link to find out more about John McCain’s positions on the critical issues that directly impact women - then share this with the women you care about.

We have always taken the time to write our own emails warning about the consequences of passing Amendment 2. This week, to our delight, that email was written by the News-Journal Online. Read their unedited opinion of what amendment 2 does why we must stop it:

“Amendment 2: (Marriage amendment)

While Amendment 1 aims to fight bigotry, Amendment 2 — placed on the ballot by citizen initiative — would foster prejudice. Even worse, it’s deceptively worded so as to hide its true scope. Voters should see through this cynical ruse to draw ultra-right voters to the polls in a high-stakes presidential election year.

The amendment bills itself as “marriage protection.” Its supporters say it’s meant to keep Florida from being forced into recognizing unions between same-sex partners. Malarkey — state law already bans same-sex unions in four different statutes, using language that has withstood legal challenge in other states.

But the real problems with this amendment go further than supporters are willing to admit. Legal analysts say it could be used to block companies that provide benefits for unmarried partners — regardless of whether such unions are homosexual or heterosexual. It would needlessly tangle “Golden Girl”-style arrangements that allow seniors to share living accommodations while preserving inheritance rights for their descendents, and could also complicate child-custody arrangements for thousands of unmarried parents in Florida.

This amendment is heartless and pointless. The main beneficiaries: Attorneys who would reap fees from the endless litigation this amendment could spawn.

RECOMMENDATION: No on Amendment 2.”

Will you stand with us today by making a financial commitment to stop Amendment 2?

Dear
The last time someone took a poll of Americans who were thinking about changing careers, 57% said they were looking for new and brighter opportunities elsewhere. I’m guessing that number’s probably higher now.If you’re having these same thoughts then you might be interested in learning about an opportunity my friend and colleague, Don Mahoney, came across quite a few years ago.

Don came to realize exactly how valuable this “opportunity” was for him just recently. He’d been making over $200,000 a year for the last several years, but then something happened.

He was going through a bitter divorce and needed time to rest and heal…so he only worked one week each month. He still made $105,453.83.

Now he’s feeling better and back to working “full time” (which for him is still about half of what most people work) and he’s on track to comfortably double last year’s income. And the recession? Don’s not concerned.

You see, he’s found a stress-free business that’s the best-kept secret in America. It’s a way for you to quit your full time job (if you want to)…travel whenever and wherever you like…and make a very good living.

And Don’s not the only one I know who’s on this path…

Paul Hollingshead was stocking the dog food aisle at a local grocery store for $6.50 an hour before he learned this new skill. In just five years, he earned nearly double the money he made in his entire working career — over $1.32 million.

In fact, last year alone he made enough money to pay off all his debts and move his family to a beautiful country home in Vermont - something he’s always dreamed of doing. (By the way, I know Paul and I can vouch for his success. I’ve never been to his place in Vermont but he says when the sun rises, you can see the most unobstructed, picturesque view of the mountains you can imagine.)

Will Pratt works in Paris most of the year, but also travels extensively. This past year alone, he’s toured the South Coast of Ireland, hopped up and down the East coast of the US and even spent two weeks in Australia. Without this program he wouldn’t be able to do any of the traveling, writing, or work he enjoys today.

I’m telling you these stories because I know the people behind this program and I can tell you that it’s real…it works…and if you’re looking to change careers or even earn some extra income on the side then I think you should give it a shot.

You can find out how to try it risk free.

I think you’ll be glad you did.

Best regards,

Labor: How to be a Christian Doctor, Lawyer, or Whatever
Paul Dean
Over the Labor Day weekend I’ve been thinking about, well, labor. The truth is that labor is a gift from God. Labor is not the consequence of sin but rather the toil associated with labor. Yet, for the believer who lives under the providential care of God, labor can be rewarding, productive, and God-glorifying all at the same time. Labor is an opportunity to put our God-given skills and gifts to work. Labor gives us the prospect of making a contribution to our world…
