WNBA Finals Brings Intriguing Matchups
The WNBA Finals tip off tonight as three-time WNBA Finalists Detroit Shock visit the Silver Stars in San Antonio. The Shock are led by Deanna Nolan (above), who is averaging 20.7 points and Katie Smith (14 ppg over the past five games) while the Becky Hammon (20.2 points and 4.3 assists) and Sophia Young (18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds) lead the Silver Stars. The Silver Stars swept both games against the Shock this year. Tune in tonight to Game 1 on ESPN 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Hammon Has Shock’s Number
A major factor in San Antonio’s regular-season series sweep over the Detroit Shock is the play of Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon, who averaged 21 points, 6.5 assists and 1.0 steal in the two games.

Celtics’ Focus: Repeat as NBA Champs
Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics are hungry for a repeat of their impressive 2007-08 NBA Championship run. Among the current Celtics, only Sam Cassell has been on back-to-back title teams and that was with the Houston Rockets in the mid ’90s. The Celtics begin their title defense against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 28.
