• High Five
1. “Wall*E” Pixar can say what no other movie studio can: It has never made a bad film, not ever, and “Wall*E” continues its remarkable streak of inventive, entertaining and endearing works of high-level animated craft. In its first half, the title character, a trash compactor toiling away on a deserted planet Earth, reveals a soul deeper and sweeter than those of most human characters in Hollywood films. In the second, more doctrinaire and familiar portion, his love for another robot helps save humanity from turning into immobile lumps addicted to advertising media. The earlier parts, with their near-silence and astounding detail, are better, but it’s all charming. (Multiple locations)
