The University of Oklahoma will honor the class of 2010 and distinguished tiffany OU alumni Arch and Jo Anne Gilbert of Fort Worth during its annual Ring Ceremony, scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in the courtyard of Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave.
The ring was adopted because of a student initiative to create a symbol that would capture the true essence of OU’s history and tradition. The OU ring honors graduating seniors and alumni from all classes, highlights students’ commitment to higher education and recognizes the heritage of the OU community.
The Gilberts are OU graduates who have remained involved in the life of their alma mater through the years.
Arch earned his bachelor’s degree in political science in 1955 and graduated from silver bangles the College of Law in 1957 – the same year Jo Anne graduated with her bachelor’s degree in education. While an undergraduate at OU, Arch was named to PE-ET and Phi Beta Kappa honor society and was a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Delta Theta. As a law student, he participated on the board of the Oklahoma Law Review, and was a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, while Jo Anne was a member and an officer in Chi Omega sorority during her time at OU.
The Gilberts live in Fort Worth, where Arch is president of InterWest Medical Corp. They are members of the OU President’s Associates, and together established a Sooner Heritage Scholarship endowment for middle-income students. They also created the Arch and Jo Anne Gilbert Professorship of Law, established to benefit the efforts of the associate dean for academics in the College of Law in recognition of the important role this position plays in the college’s success. They have contributed to the law library and courtroom addition as well as to several other scholarships and professorships in the College of Law.
Recently, Arch made a generous donation to the College of Law Scholarship Endowment, and he served as class agent for the OU Law Class of 1957, which has raised almost $125,000 in support of the College of Law. He also serves on the volunteer committee for OU’s Campaign for Scholarships.
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in Beaird Lounge in Oklahoma silver rings Memorial Union.
